The heart behind sagewood
Meet Karla Cameron
Principal, Sagewood Seniors Care
Karla resides in North Vancouver with her husband and three children. She is a mother, a caregiver, and a lifelong entrepreneur, someone who has spent her career building service-focused businesses rooted in trust, care, and meaningful connection. But Sagewood isn’t just another venture. It’s personal.
The concept for Sagewood was born from Karla’s own experience caring for her Grandma, a fiercely independent woman who lived in another province and began facing mobility and cognitive challenges later in life. Though Karla supported her from afar, finding meaningful, personalized care proved far more difficult than expected.
“I wasn’t looking for a nurse,” Karla recalls. “My Grandma didn’t need medical help. She needed company, conversation, someone to play cards with and help her feel like herself again. But every service I found offered full-time, clinical-style care. It was rigid, impersonal, and completely misaligned with what my family needed.”
Balancing motherhood, business, and long-distance caregiving, Karla felt firsthand the emotional strain so many families face trying to protect a loved one’s dignity while navigating a fragmented, one-size-fits-all elder care system. That experience sparked a mission. Sagewood was created to be the company Karla wished existed when her family needed it most, a place where care is flexible, compassionate, and truly centered around the unique needs of each care partner and their family.
With years of experience building trusted, high-touch service businesses, Karla brings a rare mix of operational excellence and genuine empathy to Sagewood’s vision. She leads with intention and conviction, always grounded in the belief that great care starts with listening.
“I know how overwhelming this journey can be,” she says. “Families deserve better. They deserve to feel supported, understood, and never alone in the process. My goal with Sagewood is to be the trusted guide I didn’t have, a team who stands beside you with care, clarity, and real solutions.”
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just care. It’s love in action.
The Story of sagewood
Sagewood was born from a simple, human truth. Caring for an aging loved one is deeply emotional, often overwhelming, and rarely straightforward.
After walking that journey firsthand, Karla set out to create something that didn’t yet exist: a care company rooted not in systems or schedules, but in people, their stories, their needs, and the families that surround them.
We chose the name Sagewood intentionally. “Sage” speaks to wisdom, experience, and the dignity we believe should always be at the heart of aging. “Wood” reflects strength, resilience, and natural beauty, the quiet backbone of so many of the people we support. Together, they represent the kind of care we’re here to provide: personalized, grounded, and deeply respectful.
Our vision isn’t to become the biggest provider, it’s to become the most trusted. We exist to offer clarity, connection, and support during a stage of life that’s often filled with uncertainty. Whether we’re providing companionship, practical help, or simply a listening ear, our goal is always the same: to make life easier for the families we serve, and to help every care partner feel truly seen, heard, and supported.
Sagewood isn’t just a service. It’s a relationship. And it’s built on something we take seriously – trust.
